Catch The Beat Of Reading
PARENTS AND READING PARTNERS - PARP 2008-09
What is PARP? A key enrichment program offered at OLV is PARP - Parents as Reading Partners. PARP is a collaborative effort among parents, teachers, and the community to build a strong reading partnership between home and school. This program is designed to involve parents in helping their child establish good reading habits and become a life-long reader.
You will be amazed at how a small investment of your time can result in something so special for your child. Parental support is critical in keeping PARP a vibrant part of the OLV curriculum. PARP encourages parents and children to read together for at least 15 minutes every day. For each day that you and your child read together you will place a checkmark on your PARP calendar. At the end of the month, your child brings the completed calendar into school and he or she is entered in the monthly drawing for a special reading-related prize. Prizes are awarded at our monthly assemblies.
PARP also sponsors age-appropriate enrichment activities that enhance the program theme for the year. This year's theme is "Catch The Beat Of Reading". Visiting performers, educators, and authors will enhance your child's knowledge of music and the many different forms it can take. Each grade level will focus on a different style of music and throughout the year will research answers to questions.
The PARP year culminates in June with the Read In, where the school's hallway is transformed into a place beyond imagination. In recent years PARP staff and parents have turned the hallway into a walk-through-time in downtown Troy, a galaxy in space, and biomes of the earth.
